OVERVIEW:
Vital Root is one of six restaurants in the Edible Beats family, located on Tennyson Street in Denver, Co. The Tennyson Street area is one of Denver’s most historic neighborhoods and is known for offering a wide mix of eclectic storefronts, restaurants, breweries, galleries, and more. Vital Root is located in the heart of the restaurant zone and a popular spot for patrons to enjoy a delicious mix of main dishes, sides, or brunch, focused on fresh food from locally sourced farmers and ranchers.
Located in the densely packed, vibrant Sunnyside neighborhood, Vital Root had limited space to serve the community and was eager to upgrade its back patio with a roof enclosure that still allowed the fresh air and culture to seep through.
Project Details
CHALLENGE:
Vital Root has limited indoor seating to satisfy the steady stream of people walking and biking up and down Tennyson Street. They utilized a back patio for additional seating, which is comparable to the indoor space available, with walled borders and the open sky, sometimes covered with a thick netting. While the walls emitted the Vital Root charm and culture with living plants and earth-tone colors, they would not protect customers from the rain, and the entire space could only be used on nice weather days. Any hint of cloudy or rainy weather cut their seating capacity almost in half and would drive customers to the already full inside seating.
The partially walled-in outdoor space posed a challenge for the construction and installation of the pergola, which had to be assembled and installed under tight space and time constraints.
SOLUTION:
Pivot 6 Aluminum Pergola
StruXure of the Rockies built and installed the 20’ x 40’ Pivot 6 aluminum pergola with 4 zones in just 3 days. Sandwiched by other businesses on each side, dedicated parking spaces were the prime spot for assembling the Pivot 6, which was craned into place through the adjacent back alley. We made sure it was installed early in the morning before residents had to exit their garage on the other side of the alley to get to work
RESULTS:
The Pivot 6 in all white complements the Vital Root décor and features a beautiful louvered rooftop with rain sensors that will close automatically in the event of rain. We installed a steel structure frame from wall to wall to support the heavy-duty beams and installed the pergola rooftop flush with the building. The Pivot 6 beams feature gutters that are designed to be invisible yet divert rainwater away from the structure to the back alley. The added lighting and fans top off the look, with the white roof providing an almost iridescent illumination against the dark walls.
BENEFITS:
Vital Root almost doubled its covered seating space with the ability to consistently seat the entire area, even on rainy days. The luxury outdoor system helps Vital Root to remain competitive in the midst of multiple restaurants. The Pivot 6 provides the much needed added outdoor seating that reduces wait times for tables and alleviates customers packed close together when forced inside during inclement weather.
