A retired dentist moved to the Anthem Ranch retirement community in Broomfield, CO, to be closer to family, selecting a new home with an existing covered patio. These homes come with a small back patio which is only about 8 feet deep and not practical for seating a table and chairs, entertaining guests, or enjoying the outdoor space. Most homeowners expand their outdoor living areas by building out from the original patio.
This west-facing patio was fully exposed to the intense setting sun, making it unbearably hot and uncomfortable during the afternoons and evenings. The homeowner sought to create a shaded, functional outdoor space beyond the original patio. StruXure of the Rockies collaborated with a deck builder to design and construct a fully integrated pergola and deck, transforming the unusable area into a cohesive, inviting outdoor living space.

CHALLENGE:
StruXure of the Rockies worked closely with the deck builder to ensure a fully integrated design, coordinating the pergola installation with the construction of the deck and railings. The pergola needed to complement the overall structure, seamlessly blending with the deck and railing system while enhancing the usability and aesthetic appeal of the outdoor space.
SOLUTION:
StruXure of the Rockies designed and installed a custom Pivot 6 pergola, extending the original covered patio by 10 feet. The pergola was attached to the house, with two posts placed at the outer edge of the extended area. This strategic placement allowed the deck builder to build off the pergola’s posts, creating a seamless integration between the pergola, deck, and railings. The project highlights the exceptional results achievable when StruXure of the Rockies collaborates with deck builders and contractors during the early stages of construction.
The Pivot 6 pergola features our patented internal gutter system, which efficiently channels rainwater away from the structure to prevent pooling and ensure long-lasting durability. The fully extruded aluminum design is durable and capable of withstanding Colorado’s challenging weather conditions, including heavy snow, hail, and high winds.
This pergola was accentuated with integrated lighting, enhancing its functionality for evening use, and the beautiful corbel ends complemented the retirement community’s aesthetic.
