This homeowner in Bow Mar completely renovated an entire older home constructed in the 1950s, with an added section, a new patio and doors, and wanted a pergola to cover the new outdoor space. Struxure of the Rockies was contacted by the contractor for this home renovation, Harko Construction, for assistance in building the perfect pergola to add beauty, elegance, and functionality.
Project Details
CHALLENGE:
This renovated home, rebuilt with additions, was quite interesting and had varying rooflines. One entire side of the outdoor space was sliding accordion doors, and another side was one wall, with an open side and another partially open side. The pergola had one wall to connect to, with roof mounts, low rooflines, and vaulted ceilings.
Special mounting brackets were required to secure the pergola to mount to reinforced roof rafters. Working with the contractor provided advantages as the pergola could be designed prior to pouring the patio. We were able to identify the best location for the footings to pour them while pouring the concrete patio and anchor the columns on top of the pad.
SOLUTION:
Pivot 6 Aluminum Pergola
StruXure of the Rockies installed larger 10” beams for the frame, with a double thickness wall and two beams in the front in order to carry the span of 24’ without posts size popular for commercial installations and able to handle three times the rainwater and heavy snow loads. We were able to come in during construction while the area was exposed inside to take extra steps to reinforce the pergola to the roof rafters, with two posts on the outside. This allowed for a durable, innovative louvered roof system that is 24 feet wide and did not require a center post so as not to interfere with outdoor living space. We used 10” specialty beams to support this 3-zone pergola mounted on three sides.
RESULTS:
This installation was completed within one week, with the footings included when the contractor poured the patio. Features and accessories included a ceiling fan, lighting, heaters, and as always, adjustable louvers that pivot to allow for sunlight and airflow and close completely to protect against rain and snow. A remote control allows for quick and easy adjustment of the smart louvered roof system.
